Waste not, Want not
We went to visit a Singapore company the other day and our nostrils were assaulted in ways never before. IUT Global turns food waste into fertile compost and captures methane, converting it into biodiesel fuel to run everything in the factory and more. The stench was hard to take, but the work is absolutely commendable.
It's not a new thing. Companies such as http://www.nviro.com have been turning bio-organic wastes into biomineral agricultural and soil-enrichment products with real market value since 1993.
Rather than sending the waste into incinerators, the biosolids are converted into clean and valuable organic matter that can be used to supplement and even replace commercial fertilizers.
Where in the World is Hancock?
I haven't seen the movie but I did see Will Smith on Ellen talking about the movie, does that count? It seems like the premise is exactly the same as that of The Incredibles so I'm not sure if I want to watch this, especially after the low budget (one actor) movie that Smith was in the last time. Is the movie out where you're at? What do you think? Thumbs up or down?

UPDATE: Saw it, it sucks!
Distance Traveller

- A friend moved closer to the city centre recently.
- Another friend is trying to sell her place near the city currently.
- I bought a place closer to the city centre 3 months ago.
But when we travel out of the country, we like to travel far far away. Driving to our neigbouring countries is no way as fun as sitting in a cramped space, eating preheated meals in boxes, and waking up only to fall back to sleep again in a long haul flight.
Another country that speaks a different language is exhilarating, otherwise its too much like home. We want the experience to be tough to understand to make the distance travelled worth it. Tasting different brands of beer (Tiger, Heineken, Hoegaarden, Carlsberg, Budweiser? NO! We have those at home!) and meat prepared in their unique ways.
Do I prefer the home-cooked versions? Of course! But that’s not the point because we are a long ways from home and its supposed to be a little puzzling. However, we need to stay in a hotel that is a stone's throw from town, that’s almost a non-negotiable condition unless we can’t find a reasonably priced hotel. Bad habits are hard to kick, don’t you think?
